1、

Years ago, I lived in a building in a large city. The building next door was only a few feet away from mine. There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met, yet I could see her seated by her window each afternoon, sewing(缝纫) or reading.

After several months had gone by, I began to notice that her window was dirty. Everything was unclear through the dirty window. I would say to myself, "I wonder why that woman doesn't wash her window. It really looks terrible."

One bright morning I decided(决定) to clean my flat and wash the window.

Late in the afternoon when I finished the cleaning, I sat down by the window with a cup of coffee for a rest. What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean!

Then it dawned on me. I criticized (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window.

That was quite an important lesson for me. How often had I looked at and criticized others through the dirty window of my heart, through my own shortcomings(缺点)?

Since then, whenever I wanted to judge (评判) someone, I asked myself first, "Am I looking at him through my own dirty window?"Then I try to clean the window of my own world so that I may see the world about me more clearly.

根据文章第三段中“One bright morning I decided(决定) to clean my flat and wash the window”“一个晴朗的早晨,我决定打扫我的公寓,擦窗户”和第四段中“the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible.

根据文章第四段中“What a surprise! Across the way, the woman sitting by her window was clearly visible. Her window was clean!”“真让人吃惊!

根据第五段中的“I criticized (批评) her dirty window, but all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window”“我批评了她的脏窗户,但我一直透过自己的脏窗户看着她”可推知It dawned on me是我明白了的意思,I began to understand it我开始明白了;it cheered me up它让我振作起来;I knew it grew light我知道它变亮了;it began to get dark天开始黑了,故选A。

根据第一段中“There was a woman who lived there, whom I had never met”“有一个女人住在那里,我从未见过她”可知,A中作者以前没有见过这个女人是正确的;根据第五段中“all the time I was watching hers through my own dirty window”“但我一直透过自己脏的窗户看着她”可知,B中的作者经常擦窗户是错误的;通读全文可知,文章没有提到清洁工,可知C说法是错误的;根据第一段中“I lived in a building in a large city”“我住在一个大城市的一栋大楼里”可知,D中他们住在一个小镇上是错误的,故选A。
